| Proving Genealogy With Genetics The RICHARDSON-2 DNA Surname Project was established to identify and develop a global collection of RICHARDSON family groups descendant from a common ancestor. The cutting edge technology of DNA Y chromosome testing is the tool genealogical researchers utilize to identify mutual common ancestors, links and relationships to both documented and undocumented Richardson Family heritage. Genetic surname studies, such as the RICHARDSON-2 DNA Surname Project, are cutting new trails everyday. Through participation, we break through the proverbial "brick wall" and learn from whence we came. Like myself, many RICHARDSON researchers have exhausted avenues of extant resources available in the arena of traditional genealogical research without identifying the origin of their respective antecedents. The RICHARDSON-2 Surname DNA Project was established to help researchers break through the Brick Wall in an effort to identify their respective ancestral heritage. This study is proving to be one of the most valuable "global tools" for Richardson researchers. With an 36% match rate, the Richardson-2 DNA Surname Project, has, for the first time, brought researchers together, who had no known prior connection. We have identified 8 distinct ancestral lines and possibly 9. We're awaiting results of the next series of markers which will tell us definitively, if we've identified the 9th. Since Y-chromosome DNA markers are being analyzed in this study, the DNA sample donor must be a male with a direct male Richardson lineage. Only males have the Y-chromosome and it is passed directly, virtually unchanged, from father to son, never to or from females. Thus, females interested in obtaining information about their Richardson lineage would need to have a male relative (father, brother, uncle, a male cousin, etc., from their direct Richardson line) supply the sample for analysis. Sample collection is painless; it merely involves rubbing the inside of the cheek with a foam swab. Our surname project was established with Family Tree DNA, considered the industry leader in this scientific field. FT-DNA is based in Houston, Texas and the company extends group pricing to participants of our Richardson surname group, resulting in a considerable savings to project members. The reduced fee schedule for project members is as follows:

For instance, in our project group, we have exact 12 marker matches between participants, however, comparison of the 25 marker test results reveal mutations, or, mismatches in several markers. Therefore, we've established the 25 marker test as the benchmark for the project; however, if expense is a factor, we will welcome participants who wish to begin with the 12 marker test until mid-September. The 12 marker test is $99 but will be offered to new project members for $49 until mid-September. Our surname project enjoys steady growth, and our match rate is 37%. It is worth noting that 65% of our members have invested in the 37 marker test, while 34% started with the 12 marker test. Beginning in mid-September, the bench-mark for the project will be the 25-Marker test. We're confident our project membership will explode during the next year arming many Richardson genealogical researchers with genetic proof of common ancestral lines which will, in turn, provide new avenues leading to the ancient documentation, the traditional "paper trail," supporting their ancestry. Richardson researchers collaborating together will experience dramatic results. |
